Yesterday was RegTech Women’s first half day event, kindly hosted by Global Relay in their London office. The theme was Cracking Communications - Be effective, be confident, be compliant.
It was a mixed agenda pulled together by Lucy Heavens, advisory board member of RegTech Women, with some juggling on the day. (One panel member was unable to attend as her company has decided not to have staff attend events due to COVID-19.)
RegTech Associates kindly sponsored the event, with their co-founder, Sian Lewin, acting as compere for the afternoon.
Here are some takeaways from the event:
1) Hosted by GlobalRelay, it was great that their CEO and Founder, Warren Roy addressed the room. He said diversity is important. At GlobalRelay, they realised 98% of candidates interviewing for roles are men in their London office. He said they therefore overload leadership roles with women to balance introverted tech male staff. He also stressed their commitment to building their business in London
2) On the subject of flexible working, sometimes it means you end up working more hours.
3) Leda Glyptis, CEO of 11FS Foundry, addressed the audience with a talk about the art of storytelling. Leda is an intelligent and engaging speaker and her weekly blog on Fintech Futures was highly recommended by several people. Here is a link to her recent weekly articles.
4) The event ended with an interactive session introduced by Julia Streets, founder and CEO of Streets Consulting, with Fran Sorapure teaching us some tricks to be more confident in our communications. It was great fun. Julia produces a regular podcast.
There's no doubt about it, you don't know who you'll meet or what you'll learn at one of our RegTech Women events, however, you'll receive the warmest welcome from a group of women who collaborate, share and champion each other. You won't be disappointed.
